Can I entrust my confidence in you?

I have been following a few stories in the media about the June 4th celebration in Ghana over the past few days and something just click my mind to publish this write up, may be you and I can learn a few lessons from it as 2 personalities are laying claim of being the genius of the June 4th uprising and the probity and accountability slogan.

On May 15 1979, a group of Junior officers of the Ghana Armed Forces led by one of Ghana's former Presidents, Jerry John Rawlings toppled the ruling government but was unsuccessful. The leader Jerry Rawlings was arrested and detained thereafter. On June 4th 1979, barely 15 days after the detention of Rawlings, his other partners led by Major Boakye Gyan ceased power from the then government, brought out Jerry Rawlings from prison and made him the chairman of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council. Exactly 31 months later, Rawlings came back alone to cease power from the democratically elected President, Dr. Hilla Limann. This action of Rawlings seem to be the root of the never ending enmity between the two companion.

Issues coming up:

(1)  Rawlings was a scapegoat on May 15th 1979
(2)  Rawlings was in prison before June 4th 1979
(3)  Major Boakye Gyan led the June 4th 1979 coup d'etat
(4)  Major Boakye Gyan released Rawlings from prison on June 4th 1979
(5)  Major Boakye Gyan made Rawlings the chairman of the AFRC

From the above analysis, it is evident that Major Boakye Gyan reposed his confidence to Rawlings to lead the group due to his charisma, but records has it that he (Rawlings) propagated the June 4th uprising.  I believe this is the greatest mistake Major Boakye Gyan ever committed in his life because this same mistake was also committed by the members of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) who invited Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to be their leader in the quest for Gold Coast's independence. Now it has been documented that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is the father of Ghana, hence his birthday been declared a national holiday in Ghana.

A lot of individuals have undergone similar experiences in life, but my advice to all readers is that, be extremely careful when next you repose or entrust your confidence in someone.

Shalom!
