Rainstorm hit Yendi in Northern Ghana

Culled from www.myjoyonline.com Another rainstorm has hit the Northern regional town of Yendi, displacing security agencies and ripping off roofs of over 90 houses, even before the region recovers from recent devastating storms.  The latest is a severe rainstorm which occurred last night, rendering some security personnel in the town homeless. The rain also ripped off roofs of some 16 schools.  The victims, who have since been appealing for support, complain of losing all their property to the rain. 

Nigeria to name National Library after Late Chinua Achebe

Nigeria's House of Representatives on Tuesday asked the Federal Government to immortalise the late Prof. Chinua Achebe by naming the National Library after him. The House also observed a minute’s silence in honour of the literary icon and condoled with his family over his death. Achebe died in Boston, United States of America, on Thursday last week at the age of 82.

Archbishop Jorge Begoglio is new Pope

Argentina's Jorge Begoglio has been elected new Pope. The 76 year old now takes on a new name Pope Francis I.  Congratulations to him.

GHANAIAN ACTOR, MICHAEL MONCAR IS DEAD

Late Michael Moncar The actor is reported to have died on Friday 8th March at about 5 am. According to the President of the Ghana Actors Guild, Fred Amugi, he took ill some few weeks ago prior to his demise at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. The actor until his death, stared in a popular TV series 'Ultimate Paradise' and recently in 'Efie Wura'. SPECIAL EDITION - GHANA IS 56 YEARS OLD

"For to us a child is born, unto us a son is given..." On the eve of 6th March 1957, the birth was announced of a baby girl south of the Sahara. She was Christened Ghana and declared that her birth is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total birth of all her brothers and sisters across Africa.  56 years down the line, she has tread on low grounds and hills, met and surmounted mountains, plateaus and also walked through the valley of the shadow of death. Notwithstanding all these, she has been blessed by her creator with natural, technological and human resources to the envy of her friends and even some family members. She was blessed, is blessed, will be blessed and continue being blessed till she becomes a blessing. HAPPY BIRTH DAY!!!

Ghana's President assures support for Alan Kyeremanteng in WTO job

President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians and the continent that he will do all in his power to ensure that former Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanteng gets the nod for the WTO job. However, Ghana's candidate has to battle it out with another contestant from Kenya, Amina Mohamed. This has created division in the top hierarchy of the AU as they are at a loss as to which candidate the continent should rally behind. This will eventually jeopardise the continent's chance of taking up the post. Imagine all other continents are represented by one person and Africa is represented by two.

The Ayew Brothers quit Ghana Black Stars

The Marseille duo are reported to have tendered their resignation letter to the GFA of their decision to quit from the Senior National Team, the Black Stars. It is not yet clear the reasons they cited for quitting the Black Stars. But the duo were dropped under controversial circumstances in the lead up to the 2013 AFCON tournament in Sou th Africa. Ace Footballer, John Paintsil discharged from Hospital after collapsing

International and Ghanaian footballer, John Paintsil, who was in the grips of the law for assaulting his wife last Friday is reported to have collapsed on Tuesday and rushed to the Ghana-Canada Hospital in Accra by his wife and some family members.  As of press time, the cause of the collapse was not known, but it is rumoured that he sent a note of suicide via his blackberry phone hours before the collapse. Thank God he survived.
