The two Peruvians who stole the crown jewels of the Asantehene,Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, have been sentenced to a total of 44 months imprisonment by a Oslo District Court. The convicts, Luis Angel Acosta Barrios, 44, the man seen on CCTV carrying the suitcase which contained the gold ornaments, and Jaime Benigno Valverde Figueroa, 41, the driver during the operation, were found guilty of conspiracy to commit crime and stealing. Information reaching me indicates that the authorities of the University of Ghana has planned introducing the School Feeding Programme into the university commencing the 2013-2014 academic year. According to the Ugfile.com, a website for the tertiary students "Starting in the 2013/2014 academic year, all freshmen will be required to pick at least one of 3 meal plans including; breakfast, breakfast and lunch or breakfast, lunch and supper, before they can complete their on-line registration; a requirement for enrollment for a semester. Continuing students, though welcomed to participate in the meal plan, will however not be obliged to register for it." Hehehe! wondering how this is going to work for these 'ladies' and 'gentlemen'. Anyway, some students have already described the plan as childish.

President Mahama signing his returns with the Head of Kinbu DTRD, Mad. Vivien Danku looking on President John Mahama has filed his tax returns this morning, Tuesday April 2, 2013 at the Kinbu Office of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority. Article 68 (5) of the 1992 Constitution exempts the President from paying taxes.  It is nonetheless incumbent on the President to file his tax returns every year. President Mahama also used the opportunity of filing his tax returns to interact with the management and staff of the Revenue Authority. Interacting with the President, the Commissioner General, George Blankson, said the harmonization and modernization of the revenue authorities enabled them to collect a total of GH¢1.7 billion Cedis as tax last year and hoped that with more modernization procedures they would perform better.

Culled from www.myjoyonline.com Another rainstorm has hit the Northern regional town of Yendi, displacing security agencies and ripping off roofs of over 90 houses, even before the region recovers from recent devastating storms.  The latest is a severe rainstorm which occurred last night, rendering some security personnel in the town homeless. The rain also ripped off roofs of some 16 schools.  The victims, who have since been appealing for support, complain of losing all their property to the rain. 

Nigeria's House of Representatives on Tuesday asked the Federal Government to immortalise the late Prof. Chinua Achebe by naming the National Library after him. The House also observed a minute’s silence in honour of the literary icon and condoled with his family over his death. Achebe died in Boston, United States of America, on Thursday last week at the age of 82.
