Ever tried spinach?

Image
The benefits of spinach are many. Green leafy like spinach provide more nutrients than any other food, when compared calorie for calorie. Here are some benefits: Very nutrient-dense food . It’s low in calories yet very high in vitamins, minerals. When you consume this healthy food, you don’t need to worry about your weight-loss diet as you take in abundance. It is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, magnesium, folate, manganese, iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B2, potassium, and vitamin B6. It’s a very good source of protein, phosphorus, vitamin E, zinc and copper.  Readily available.  It can be found all over the world. Even though, with its abundant nutrient profile, it sounds like an amazing super food, it’s still easy to find in the market or easy to grow. In addition, it’s affordable. Versatile food . It can be eaten raw in a salad (and is much more nutritious than iceberg lettuce). Or it can be cooked (lightly, please) and eaten as a dish on its own or added to soups

Is this her last ring?

Image
When you have almost 7,000 rings already, what's one more? Deemed as the "world's most pierced woman," Elaine Davidson married Douglas Watson, a conservatively-dressed, piercing-free civil servant, at a low-key wedding ceremony in Scotland. The Brazilian-born Davidson, 46, opted for a flowing white dress and floral tiara, but offset the traditional look by painting her face -- already studded with 192 piercings -- green, blue and yellow. At a recent count, Davidson, who lives and works in Edinburgh, had 6,925 piercings, included 1,500 that are "internal,". Despite his bride's unconventional look and lifestyle, Watson, 60, couldn't help but gush after the 35-minute ceremony. "Elaine looked astonishing," he said. "People see the piercings, but I see the amazing personality underneath. We have known each other for a long time." Davidson was reportedly first certified as a Guinness World Record holder in 2000, when she had only

INDEED MAN LOOKS AT THE OUTWARD

Image
Have you ever judged or been carried away by someone's outward look?  Most ladies fall victim to this situation because they are always on the look for that tall, stout and gentle looking guy to date.  Most ladies interviewed as to what kind of guy they would want to go on a date with will expect their dream guy to be; tall, stout, handsome, well-mannered, cultured and loving. Most of these qualities are the outward appearance of the person. Guys on the other hand also look out for a beautiful lady who is slender, average weight, coca-cola shaped, long hair and charming. Many a time, people get into relationships taking into recognition what a person outwardly possess, but along the line, when it ends up in a permanent union, the true person is revealed because temperament, like pregnancy can never be hidden. One such person who has fallen victim to this saying is our own former President Jerry John Rawlings. Prior to the 2004 general election when Prof. Mills contested for the

MARRIAGES ON THE RUN

Image
‘For Sale’, ‘Reduced to Clear’, ‘Auction Sale’, ‘To Let’, ‘Promotional Sale’, ‘For Lease’, ‘For Renting’, ‘50% Discount’. Some married men and women are walking on the streets of Accra and Ghana with these tags placed on them by their partners without their knowledge. Living individual lives do not nurture marriage A song writer says ‘if you can’t tolerate an irate wife or lazy husband, tag on him or her ‘For Sale’. Marriage is the union of two individual lives as one. In other words, two lives become one with a common destiny, shared goals and ideals, common likes and dislikes and interests and a common purpose. More often than not, most married couples in a bid to please one partner or the other force their own interests or likes on the other. Some even live and do things as though they were still single.   If these two lives do not blend and metamorphorsize into one common life, there is no way happiness and joy will be present in such environment. Do you have a spare language?

Image
Have you ever found yourself in a fix and you needed a spare language to set you free? Just as you need to possess a spare tyre to use in case of an emergency, so you need a spare language to carry along with you where ever you go. Kofi Annan’s ability to fluently speak English and French was a plus in attaining that high laurel of UN Secretary General. His other competitors were only fluent in one language or the other. Your ability to possess another language – be it local or international may be the tie breaker in your quest for employment or assistance. Investigators, business men and women, journalists, communicators and legal practitioners cannot do without an additional language. Once I visited a communication centre to call my sister. When I entered I saw this woman who is known by my family and also came from our home town.   The message I had to convey to her was a confidential one and the presence of the woman left me wondering – if I spoke Twi, Ga, Fanti, English or Effut

THE ROD OF CORRECTION

Image
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him ( Proverbs 22:15 ).   Every child receives one form of punishment or the other for being stubborn or for any wrong doing. The Bible makes it clear that foolishness is part of every child, in fact, inside a child’s heart. So do not be surprised to see it manifest in your child. Once it is there, God says it takes only one thing to get it out, and that is the rod of correction. This rod has been misinterpreted to be the whip or cane.    Even though it is included in the list of rods, it is the least helpful because children who are frequently whipped get used to it and no longer develop any fear for it. "For those who feel nostalgic longing for the ' good old days ' where children were quick to obey and parents were strict: please remember, it was that kind of parenting that created the world we live in today. It is time for kinder, gentler, more biblical parenting." I

The Shepherd is slaughtering the sheep

Image
Once upon a time, a flock owner asked his shepherd to take his sheep to graze. Because they will be away for some days, the flock owner provided him with food, water, amoury and first aid. In fact, he made sure he lacked nothing so as to take good care of his flock. After a few days and when the shepherd realized they had gone farther into the bush and no one seem to be in sight, he slaughtered one sheep, prepared khebab and grilled some for food – even though his master had provided him with everything. After their long say in the bush grazing, they returned home. The flock owner on seeing the sheep realized the number had reduced. Upon interrogation, the shepherd admitted the offence and was asked to pay for the lost sheep and never return to the sheep fold again. We have heard recent reports of sexual abuse by some men of God. The Bible specifically points out that in the end time false prophets will come in their numbers and lead people astray. My point is that their actions in t

OH! TEACHER

Image
During my secondary school days, I participated in an international inter-school essay competition.   Even though I did not get the ultimate prize, my literature teacher who supervised our school’s entries in handing over my acknowledgement letter to me said “Docia, you wrote very well, keep it up and don’t stop writing”. Mr. Danyo, my literature teacher now works with the Secondary Division of the Ministry of Education. This comment triggered a hidden passion in me and I give credit to him. As I remember my teacher for positively impacting my life, someone is also remembering his or her teacher for negatively affecting her life.   Some teachers have been reported in the media recently of sodomizing their students.   First it was a female polytechnic teacher of the Takoradi Polytechnic having lesbian relationship with her students, then it was a male teacher of Adisadel College having unnatural canal knowledge of his students.   Gone are the days when parents wholly put their trust i

ETIQUETTE AT TABLE

Image
Has someone taken a second look at you at table before?  Jesse and Georgette visited a restaurant where they had gone on a date purposefully for Georgette to affirm her position on Jesse's marriage proposal.  Due to their busy schedule (Jesse is a young medical doctor and has just established a church and Georgette is a young media consultant), this was their first time of eating together, though they go out for fun, they have never sat at table to eat as a would-be couple. As they ate, Georgette intermitently stared at Jesse as she could not believe what was happening - he talked with his mouth full, he ate noisily, drank noisily to the attention of other clients.  He tucked his napkin into the neck of his shirt like a baby to be breastfed.  When Georgette could no longer stand the embarassment from her fiance, she took her hand bag and left Jesse stuck to his seat. Watch your manners at table, it can cost your marriage or friendship no matter the number of academic Degrees you

Is it culture or an uncivilized society?

Image
Culture is the way of life of a particular society or group of people, including patterns of thought, beliefs, behavior, customs, traditions, rituals, dress, and language, as well as art, music, and literature.  ( Webster’s New World Encyclopedia, 1992 ) Civilization on the other hand is a state of human society that is very developed and organized. It could also mean a society, its culture and its way of life during a particular period of time in a particular part of the world.  A civilized society is one that is well organized socially with a very developed culture and way of life. Masai ladies of East Africa Looking at these definitions of culture and civilization, one may be tempted to conclude that a particular culture by a group of people is either barbaric or brutish considering the practices of such people.  The Masai people of East Africa have a unique culture that I admire so much: their way of dressing and an aspect of piercing their bodies.  The Jaguar people of t
